Macau World Heritage Sites

A-Ma Temple

Actually, A-Ma Temple already existed before the city was called Macau. It is said that the Taoist female immortal Mazu, who is known as having the ability to predict good and bad and often helping the businessmen and fisherman at sea to overcome problem and disaster, live here. So Fujian people and the locals build the temple together in this place. And the temple is named by the female immortal, called A-Ma Temple.

Sam Kai Vui Kun (Kuan Tai Temple)

Located at the heart of the city with all western-style architecture around, Sam Kai Vui Kun illustrates the harmonious coexistence of the two cultures. The temple was founded because Macau’s early businessmen like to gather and communicate with each other.

Ruins of St. Paul’s

About 400 years ago, the Portuguese occupied of Macao and brought the Catholic Church here. After several years, the Portuguese built this Gothic church in 1562. Later, the church was destroyed by fire twice. In 1602, St. Paul’s church was rebuilt again and completed in 1637. But, 1835, a fire destroyed the church again and leave us what we see now, Ruins of St. Paul’s.

Macau Museum

Possessed of lots of objects of great historical value, The Macau Museum is a historical and cultural museum, demonstrating the changing of the city in past years.

Mount Fortress

Built in 1626, the Mount Fortress was Macau’s mainly military defence structure. In 1662, the Dutch attempted to invade, but was defeated by the Mount Fortress on the castle.
